Today’s quick write bellwork in my math class was this: “Describe a time you changed something about yourself. How did that affect your identity?” (I planned to use this as a starting point for the identity property.)
My period after lunch was a bit chatty today, and it was taking a little longer to get them focused on their work. I was trying not to get impatient as I explained the writing prompt again.
Then one of my students said, “You know, Miss Capalla, I used to be such a sweet little boy. And then…you know…(small sigh, then a helpless shrug)…the Internet.”
I tried not to smile, but I couldn’t help it. The way he said it just made me want to laugh.
